So often I read this passage in Paul’s letter to the Ephesians and fail to stop and consider the magnitude of the statement. I treat it as a creed, which on one level it is but it is so much more. It is truth, it is promise, and it is my inheritance.
God has made known to us the mystery of his will…because he gets pleasure in letting us in on what he has planned!!
Let’s repeat this…God lets us in on the mystery of his will. Why? Because it gives him pleasure to do so. It is part of the relationship. We are no longer servants, he calls us his friends. Servants don’t know what the master has planned; they simply do as they are told. Friends, on the other hand, get to know the mind behind it all. They get to be in on the thinking, the planning, and the end result. They get to work with God rather than simply for him.
As I live from his presence, as I abide in him and his words abide in me, I gain his mind, his heartbeat, his vision, his plans and his strategies and then I get to participate as a friend of God.
